Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) lets your organization select Anthropic or OpenAI so Ivy uses each calling member's personal provider key. While BYOK is active, Ivy does not spend your organization's Intervy credits. Your provider account is responsible for any provider charges.

BYOK is included in Growth and Scale. An active grace grant can temporarily make it available on another plan.

Why use BYOK#

Use an existing provider account, choose an available model for your provider, and review provider charges in your provider's dashboard rather than buying Intervy credit packs.

Where to find the setting#

Open Settings → AI. Changing the provider requires organization-management permission, held by Org Admins by default. Other members see the selected provider read-only and can manage their own personal key, including members with the predefined Interviewer role. Organization-view permission is not required for personal-key management.

If the provider is unknown or unavailable, turn on your personal Enable Ivy switch, then select Refresh AI status. A loading or failed read does not mean your organization uses Intervy Credits. Members who can read organization settings can also select Retry provider settings when that read fails; personal-key controls remain available whenever Ivy can identify the provider.

Set up BYOK with Anthropic#

1. Open Settings → AI with organization-management access.
2. In Provider, select Anthropic. When switching from Intervy Credits, review the confirmation dialog and select Switch to BYOK.
3. In Default model, choose one of the available models for Anthropic.
4. Select Save changes.
5. Each member enters their own key in Your personal Anthropic API key. Move focus away from the field to save it, then select Test to check the connection.

Set up BYOK with OpenAI#

1. Open Settings → AI with organization-management access.
2. In Provider, select OpenAI. When switching from Intervy Credits, review the confirmation dialog and select Switch to BYOK.
3. In Default model, choose one of the available models for OpenAI.
4. Select Save changes.
5. Each member enters their own key in Your personal OpenAI API key. Move focus away from the field to save it, then select Test to check the connection.

Replace or remove your personal key#

Enter a new key in the matching personal-key field and move focus away to replace the saved key. Select Remove key to delete your key. These actions affect only your account; they do not change another member's key or the organization provider. Test displays Connection successful or Connection failed — check your API key, and you can still remove a saved key after testing it.

Member key security#

Personal keys are encrypted when saved. Settings displays a masked hint rather than the saved key.

Credits while BYOK is active#

BYOK calls do not spend Intervy credits. The Ivy panel hides its credit balance while BYOK is active.

BYOK on the Usage page#

For members who can open Usage and load the provider setting, Settings → Usage displays Usage tracking is not available in BYOK mode. It links to Anthropic Console or OpenAI Platform so you can review that provider account's usage.

Switch back to Intervy Credits#

1. Open Settings → AI with organization-management access.
2. In Provider, select Intervy Credits.
3. Select Save changes. Subsequent Ivy requests use your organization's Intervy credits. Saved personal keys are preserved.

Grace window for existing BYOK users#

Some organizations received a 30-day BYOK grace window during the move to organization settings. BYOK remains available while that grant is active, including on Free. After it expires, subsequent Ivy requests use Intervy Credits unless the plan or another active grant still includes BYOK.

When the BYOK card is accessible, it shows BYOK access ends and the grace date while that date is still in the future. After the window has passed, the banner no longer appears.
