Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

Let your organization's Ivy AI run against your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key — no Intervy credits deducted.

Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) lets your organization connect Anthropic or OpenAI API keys so Ivy runs against your provider account. While BYOK is active, Intervy does not deduct credits from your organization's balance — usage is billed directly by the provider to each member's personal key.

BYOK is available on the Growth plan and above.

Why use BYOK#

BYOK is useful when your team already has Anthropic or OpenAI accounts with capacity you want to reuse, when you want full control over which model Ivy uses, or when you prefer to manage AI spend through your own provider dashboards rather than purchasing Intervy credit packs.

Where to find the setting#

The Ivy AI provider settings live under Org Settings → AI. Only Org Admins can change the provider. Staffing members and Interviewers can see the current setting and manage their personal API keys, but cannot switch the provider.

Set up BYOK with Anthropic#

  1. Open Org Settings → AI in the sidebar.
  2. In the Provider dropdown, select Anthropic.
  3. In the Default model dropdown, pick the model your organization should use:
    • Haiku — fastest and cheapest.
    • Sonnet — balanced speed and capability (recommended).
    • Opus — highest reasoning capability.
  4. Select Save changes. A confirmation dialog appears — review the implications and confirm.
  5. Each team member who wants to use Ivy must then open Org Settings → AI, scroll to the Personal API key section within the same page, paste their Anthropic API key (starts with sk-ant-), and select Test to confirm it works.

Set up BYOK with OpenAI#

  1. Open Org Settings → AI in the sidebar.
  2. In the Provider dropdown, select OpenAI.
  3. In the Default model dropdown, pick the model:
    • GPT-5 Nano — fastest and cheapest.
    • GPT-5 Mini — fast and affordable.
    • GPT-5 — balanced.
    • o4-mini — reasoning, affordable.
    • o3 — reasoning, most capable.
  4. Select Save changes and confirm the dialog.
  5. Each member opens Org Settings → AI, scrolls to the Personal API key section, switches to the OpenAI key tab, pastes their OpenAI API key, and selects Test.

Personal API keys are encrypted at rest and transmitted over HTTPS. They are never shown to other members, logged, or accessible to Intervy's team. A member without a personal key set will see a "No API key" error on their next Ivy request.

Credits while BYOK is active#

Intervy does not deduct any credits while BYOK is active. The credit balance shown in the Ivy panel reflects the organization's existing balance and does not change due to Ivy calls. Your provider charges each member's key directly.

BYOK on the Usage page#

When BYOK is active, Settings → Usage shows a notice that usage tracking is not available in BYOK mode. Because Ivy routes calls directly to your provider, Intervy does not receive the data needed to build a usage log. To review usage and costs, follow the link on that page to your provider's own dashboard — Anthropic Console for Anthropic keys, OpenAI Platform for OpenAI keys.

Switch back to Intervy Credits#

  1. Open Org Settings → AI.
  2. In the Provider dropdown, select Intervy Credits.
  3. Select Save changes. Ivy immediately resumes drawing from the organization's credit balance. Saved personal keys are preserved.

Grace window for existing BYOK users#

Organizations whose Org Admin had BYOK enabled before the feature moved to org-scoped settings receive a 30-day grace window. During this window the previous BYOK configuration continues to work even on the Free plan. After the window expires, Ivy switches back to Intervy Credits unless the organization upgrades to Growth.

A banner in Org Settings → AI shows the date when the grace window ends.
